  • Greetings!

When I was six years old, my mother gave me a diary.  I remember very distinctly that it was red with a little brass lock.  This began my journey into recording the details of my everyday life.  Writing has always been a love of mine and a necessary part of my self expression.  While in school working towards my English degree,  I had the opportunity to visit the John Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.  To my great pleasure, the feature exhibits consisted of many great Masters of Photography. One of whom was the great Andre Kertesz.  I immediately fell in love with his ability to form the perfect snapshot and felt something inside myself completely identify.  It was upon reading a quote by Mr. Kertesz that I went home and promptly changed my major to Photography.  The words were simply, "I write with light."

I'm a street shooter at heart, who people hire when they want honest and intelligent images documenting personal events. I dabble in portraiture. I run half marathons. And write, a lot.

I'm currently working on several personal projects. One of which is my first novel.

Ginger

Here is another image from my casting call shoot.  Ginger.  Isn’t that a great name?  Being that I usually have not met my clients prior to our appointment, I’m always nervous about what to expect.  But when we arrived at Ginger’s house she promptly greeted us at the door with a lovely smile.  Since this was just for a headshot, location was not a big concern so we did it right there on her porch.  Being in her 80′s, she needed a little help out the door as she didn’t want to haul the walker out.  I began to imagine this white haired woman as a young girl, running and jumping and climbing.  I tried to imagine her as a young teenager, flirting with boys and happily going about the daily task of all that is being a teen in the 1930′s.  As we talked, she shared with me a bit of family information about how she didn’t get to be near her grandchildren, I could tell that she felt disappointed with that.  I felt the regret for her…I wanted to ask about the situation, but didn’t want to pry.  She had done some traveling in her life.  And because she knew this was for a commercial spot, she mentioned how when she was young her favorite movie star was Katherine Hepburn.  She smiled as she conveyed this bit of information.

Here is Ginger.  One more thing, she shared that she was a red-head.  A red-head with the name, Ginger.  This made me smile.

I love this! What a smile. You know it’s easy to shoot images of teenage seniors; they’re all about looking good anyway. But, to see images of REAL seniors, warms my heart. I love them.

You’re right, a redhead named Ginger is classic. Love it.
