  • Greetings!

When I was six years old, my mother gave me a diary.  I remember very distinctly that it was red with a little brass lock.  This began my journey into recording the details of my everyday life.  Writing has always been a love of mine and a necessary part of my self expression.  While in school working towards my English degree,  I had the opportunity to visit the John Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.  To my great pleasure, the feature exhibits consisted of many great Masters of Photography. One of whom was the great Andre Kertesz.  I immediately fell in love with his ability to form the perfect snapshot and felt something inside myself completely identify.  It was upon reading a quote by Mr. Kertesz that I went home and promptly changed my major to Photography.  The words were simply, "I write with light."

I'm a street shooter at heart, who people hire when they want honest and intelligent images documenting personal events. I dabble in portraiture. I run half marathons. And write, a lot.

I'm currently working on several personal projects. One of which is my first novel.

PhotoJournalism

It’s photojournalism week over at I Heart Faces, this is my entry. I took this while visiting my favorite city, Los Angeles, this past winter.

This particular gentleman had a mental disorder that prevented him from working. He had settled himself on the 3rd street promenade Santa Monica. This is a shopping area where many local artists come and set up music or their particular talent right on the street. All types of people stroll through this area. Many were passing him by. Just up the street to the left, a couple of blocks where you see the palm trees in the distance, the Pacific ocean and the Santa Monica Pier. So much beauty and so much poverty.

I love this photo! I love all the details from the “Medical records folder” binder to the coffee cup sitting beside it to the wrinkles on his forehead to the people walking away in the distance. Amazing job!

Yes, Sarah, this is exactly why I was in an L.A. state of mind! My husband is going out there for a meeting in September and I’m so jealous. I need to make a trip soon!

I do not understand why the gravatar images are not showing up. I’ll look into this.

I was so taken, that I typed “Wow” in where my name should go. :) The contrast between him, all alone, and the crowd that has moved past is amazing. And it’s so sharp! It’s a lovely picture. And a heartbreaking one.

Thank you, ZZ.

Christina–Thank you so much for your comment. It really helps to hear what it is about the image that a person likes. Homelessness abounds in the land of the beautiful. It’s a harsh truth.
