  • Greetings!

When I was six years old, my mother gave me a diary.  I remember very distinctly that it was red with a little brass lock.  This began my journey into recording the details of my everyday life.  Writing has always been a love of mine and a necessary part of my self expression.  While in school working towards my English degree,  I had the opportunity to visit the John Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.  To my great pleasure, the feature exhibits consisted of many great Masters of Photography. One of whom was the great Andre Kertesz.  I immediately fell in love with his ability to form the perfect snapshot and felt something inside myself completely identify.  It was upon reading a quote by Mr. Kertesz that I went home and promptly changed my major to Photography.  The words were simply, "I write with light."

I'm a street shooter at heart, who people hire when they want honest and intelligent images documenting personal events. I dabble in portraiture. I run half marathons. And write, a lot.

I'm currently working on several personal projects. One of which is my first novel.

September: ART 2

Lately, I’ve been studying the beautiful photography of William Claxton. Specifically, his book titled Photographic Memory. I was lucky enough to procure this incredibly stellar giant hardback book at a local used book store, a gold mine really, a complete and total diamond of a find and have voraciously been eating every single page with much thought and attention to detail. In other words, this dude ROCKS! Not only is he an amazing photographer but he is quite alluring as a writer as well and I gotta tell ya, for me, when these two things collide, and collide well, all the neurons in my brain begin firing at the same time and a spark of inspiration the size of a supernova explodes. It’s like the world series of awesomeness for me. Okay, so I’m being a little dramatic. But seriously, call it God, the Universe, or some other cosmic mix of sheer luck but something led me to that particular book store and to this particular book. And I’m grateful for it. It has helped me to begin to find my way out of the darkness that I’ve been in for weeks. Sometimes, you need to be in a dark place so you can see the light better.

My image for today: Ellie of Ellie’s Handmade Soaps. I was fortunate enough to meet Ellie over dinner about a week or so ago and wanted to share this portrait with you, in the spirit of Claxton, in my own way…Ellie…
