I’ve been on this journey lately with studying photographers that really speak to me. Right now my focus has been mainly on works that have been published. Forgive me if I haven’t visited your blog in a while. I find that In the past I spent way too much time online glancing through, instead of staying a while and savoring a particular work. In an earlier post, I wrote about a major gold mine I found in William Claxton. But there is another photographer whose work has set a my mind ablaze with thought provoking interest..Pamela Hanson. In particular, her work titled, ‘Boys’. This book is filled with snapshots of boys, portraits of boys, stories about boys as well as quotes about boys. So of course being that I’m a woman, I grew up with an interest in boys, but I myself did not grow up with brothers. And as a mom, I am raising girls. This book is like a sneak peek into the wonderment of a boys life. There are some really gorgeous boys, being that Ms. Hanson is a fashion photographer, and there are boys who are just simply, boys. Having this work has helped me as a photographer because of my limited understanding of boys in general. I tend to photograph a lot of girls, I don’t know, it’s just who come to me for the most part and that’s wonderful! I understand girls. I know girls. But boys are a mystery to me…so I deliberately set out to capture something boy-ish, ha ha. On the way out to the high school game last Friday night, I saw these boys running down my street, it was like Lord of The Flies meets blue man group. So, I asked them to pose for me. Now, would a gaggle of girls go all out like this? I think not. : )
