Cindy Knull bio picture
  • Greetings!

When I was six years old, my mother gave me a diary.  I remember very distinctly that it was red with a little brass lock.  This began my journey into recording the details of my everyday life.  Writing has always been a love of mine and a necessary part of my self expression.  While in school working towards my English degree,  I had the opportunity to visit the John Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.  To my great pleasure, the feature exhibits consisted of many great Masters of Photography. One of whom was the great Andre Kertesz.  I immediately fell in love with his ability to form the perfect snapshot and felt something inside myself completely identify.  It was upon reading a quote by Mr. Kertesz that I went home and promptly changed my major to Photography.  The words were simply, "I write with light."

I'm a street shooter at heart, who people hire when they want honest and intelligent images documenting personal events. I dabble in portraiture. I run half marathons. And write, a lot.

I'm currently working on several personal projects. One of which is my first novel.

(THANK YOU so much, Shutter Sisters, for choosing this image!! The Daily Click. Also, visit my Flickr page.)

This is my daughter.  She is the most wonderfully funny child.  She is full of vibrancy and life.  She’s even keel and friendly.  She has a wonderfully healthy way of looking at her relationships and she is well liked.  I chose this image because it really shows her face.  She has a portwine stain that I find wonderfully engaging.  People have often told me that once they met her, they’ve never forgotten her.  We have often talked of laser surgery and if she would like to do that, but she has always turned it down stating that it would be too weird for her to not have the birthmark and that it’s just who she is.  In her earlier school days, there was an art assignment where the class had to draw portraits of each other.  Several students drew a portrait of V, some with the birthmark and some without.  One even drew the birthmark as a pink flower around her eye.   I cherish this artwork so much.  It is a testament to those who see, how they see, and to those who don’t.   I’m proud to be her mother and I love her.  I love her so much.

She is such a breathtaking little girl. Once I got over the initial surprise at seeing her portwine stain, I found that I don’t even notice it. She so outshines it! And bravo to her (and to you and Brad for instilling it in her) for having such a fantastic self esteem that she doesn’t want to get rid of it. And her eyes? Wowza. Your little V is an old soul, you can see it in her beautiful eyes. :)

Wow, what a beautiful little girl. Those eyes are so captivating. She sounds like a really strong and independent little girl.
