  • Greetings!

When I was six years old, my mother gave me a diary.  I remember very distinctly that it was red with a little brass lock.  This began my journey into recording the details of my everyday life.  Writing has always been a love of mine and a necessary part of my self expression.  While in school working towards my English degree,  I had the opportunity to visit the John Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles.  To my great pleasure, the feature exhibits consisted of many great Masters of Photography. One of whom was the great Andre Kertesz.  I immediately fell in love with his ability to form the perfect snapshot and felt something inside myself completely identify.  It was upon reading a quote by Mr. Kertesz that I went home and promptly changed my major to Photography.  The words were simply, "I write with light."

I'm a street shooter at heart, who people hire when they want honest and intelligent images documenting personal events. I dabble in portraiture. I run half marathons. And write, a lot.

I'm currently working on several personal projects. One of which is my first novel.

Hollywood Week

I’ve been in Los Angeles this week.  Returning home tomorrow.  *sigh* .   The snow is not sounding too inviting but like everything all good things must come to an end.   I start my day today with thinking about the places I want to visit before the day is out.  I’ve withheld shooting all the typical touristy things about Los Angeles, because I’ve done it all before.  In fact, I’m quite shocked that although I’ve carried my camera everywhere with me, I’ve rarely fired it.  Lazy?  I don’t know.  I’m trying to shoot what interests me instead of what I think I should for the masses.  I’m not being very thoughtful of my audience am I?  *smiling*  sorry.  I’ll do better today.

A big issue for me, is that I rarely have my picture taken because I’m the one in the driver’s seat and it never crosses my mind to say, “Hey, take my picture!”  I’m a control freak.  Plus, who really likes to have their picture taken anyway? While sitting on the sidewalk of a wonderful little Mexican restaurant having lunch the other day…Mary Powers from American Idol walked passed me.  She was with a male friend and I was like ,”Hey, that’s that chick from American Idol who sang Pat Benatar and Pink.”  But the server was there taking our order and I felt rude to just get up and chase after her.  So, I made a mental note of the sighting.  Knowing I wouldn’t get the shot I wanted.

But as luck would have it, 20 minutes later she came back up the sidewalk to our table and I reached out and grabbed her.

So maybe she’s not a “celebrity” in the sense that unless you specifically picked her out as a favorite on Idol, you might not know who she is.  But because I did recognize her, I took a chance and went with the moment.  We all had a lovely conversation as she is originally from Cincinnati.  The only problem, she got booted out on groups week.  Bummer.  I wish her all the best because her voice is amazing!

Of course, then I have a not so proud moment.  I have really brought myself down a level…

I didn’t even know you were gone?! How fun for you!! Maybe when you move back to California you can become a paparazzo? Awesome picture of Jack Black! Can’t wait to see what else you shot. Have a safe trip back.
