I’ve been wearing braces for nearly two years. Officially they were to come off January 5th, but my Orthodontist called last week to let me know of an opening available if I wanted to come in and have them off early…Merry Christmas to me, right!? I will say that at first I was taken aback because my teeth looked huge! In fact they looked so big I was startled and felt like a horse. And after my orthodontist did a procedure on them that smoothed out the chips and rounded the edges a bit, they then seemed to appear FAKE. FAKE, can you believe I was feeling that way…and it felt wrong. I went home and hid for a few days feeling all self conscious. I kept staring at them in the mirror trying to love them. But, it was so new and so strange. I kept asking my husband, “Do they look okay?” “Are you sure I don’t look like a horse?” All the time reassuring me…they looked great. Isn’t it funny how something good can make you feel so undeserving? All that work, torture, effort to get something perfect and when it finally seems to be, we fumble around with it not knowing how to feel. I’m happy to say, that I’m doing much better with my new smile and after my husband whipped out the camera and took some images, I’m feeling much much better! He shot this image of me on our front porch, in very low light, using Canon’s new 7D and our 24-70L lens wide open. It was his first time to shoot with it, so be kind.
