I had the good fortune of getting to play with a 135mm lens on a 5D the other day. This lens was a little hard to get to know, so I screwed around with it while my girls played outside. I also had to get used to the way the 5D was awesome. I love my camera and I work it like a dog, but it took some time to figure out some of the controls on the 5D. It didn’t take long though…getting used to the lens, like I said, was the biggest challenge. But I like how the images turned out…

Okay. While there is no doubt that cameras have become so sophisticated they almost CREATE light..heh heh, I still choose to believe that sometimes you just have to work with what you’ve got. Yes, go spend the money on a DSLR, it’s worth it as long as you learn learn learn. Because no amount of money spent on a high end camera is gonna give you the perfect image. No, that my friend, is going to have to be you with your butt in a seat somewhere learning from a professor, or in front of your computer or reading a book. Then after you’ve sat on your boo-tay, learning what you can there, take that nice camera outside and shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot shoot. M-kay. Now, having said that. Come back to your little point and shoot because he/she or whatever you wanna call it, is still your friend. Remember…still your friend. I’m always rooting for the underdog. So on a recent photowalk with I Heart Faces, I remembered my little friend…SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND…the Canon PowerShot SD800 IS.

And back to my good ol’ DSLR camera. Shot with my kit lens because my Canon 24-70L lens was rented out. Why no 50? I just didn’t want to work that hard. Work with what you have. And WORK IT.

June Theme: Now

I’ve had something working in the back of my mind for quite some time now. And since June’s theme from NaBloPoMo is ‘NOW’, I thought it would be a perfect time to get my little project started. So right NOW I am searching through all my digital archives and rummaging through old photos. It’s kind of a secret what I’m doing so I won’t say too much more about it. But it’s going to take some time and I don’t have a whole lot of time left. You see, part of the NOW’s in my life will include a deadline. It’s so easy to say, “someday” or “I’ll do it later” or “when I have more time…”. So, to remedy that, I have given myself a deadline of three weeks with this project. That way it gets done NOW in little segments.

The theme for the month of June over at NaBloPoMo is NOW. Go ahead and check out the link. It’s a great way to get inspired about blogging or being creative in your particular endeavor.

Thinking of the word ‘Now’ and trying to implement that into my life. Just the other day I was talking with some friends about how sometimes we always say “change is coming” or “it will happen”. We were basing this conversation of the scripture “Hope deferred makes the heart sick” as found in Proverbs 13:12 in the christian Bible. At one point in my life I had been told that I was trapped within my own hope. I am a girl who believes in destiny and fate. I am always dreaming or believing in the possibility. Sometimes this has truly made my heart sick. Because waiting for anything can be so painful, if the waiting lasts too long. In recent years I have chosen to step out of the bondage of hope deferred and start believing in ‘now’. Today is the day. One of my favorite quotes, you’ll find it in my inspirations page link at the top, is from Rocky III. Rocky and Apollo Creed are training for an upcoming fight with Clubber Lang. Rocky’s coach Mickey has died though and he’s drowning in grief…he begins to give up. Apollo begins to scream:

Apollo: He’s hooking. He’s hooking. He’s hooking! Damn, Rock, Come on! What’s the matter with you?

Rocky: Tomorrow. Let’s do it tomorrow.

Apollo: [Screaming] There is no tomorrow! THERE IS NO TOMORROW! THERE IS NO TOMORROW!

Applying this to a grocery list, phone calls, that trip to Spain I want, or a casual moment on the porch with my girls and their dad…THERE IS NO TOMORROW!

My husband has been traveling a lot with his job, so while out running errands and basically enjoying the great weather, we stopped for lunch and frozen custard. I decided to get some pictures of my girls doing what they do best, acting silly. I used my little point and shoot that I keep inside my purse and snapped away. These were meant to be sent to my husband to cheer him up while he is away.

Still catching up on my Tulsa trip.

During my Tulsa trip, one of my dearest high school friends and I were able to get together after many years apart. She has a four year old son who is so perfectly cute, I wanted to pack him up in my bag and take him home with me. We met at Woodward park in Tulsa and she brought along her niece Madison. It was a beautiful warm day. I hadn’t been to Woodward park in at least 15 years, I had forgotten how beautiful it is. Kerri had asked me if I would be willing to get some photo’s of her son and his cousin together. They live four hours apart from each other and so I was very happy to do this for her and her family.

Golfing

I played a round of nine holes yesterday and took my daughter with me. She loves to whack at things, especially anything involving a stick, play sword, and golf club. Tee time was 9:30 am and it was blistering by the third hole. My baby was a trooper. And the best part was that later that day, she took a three hour nap. Three hours. I think I have a new golfing buddy.

I’ve finally updated my software that was lost on my laptop when the hard drive died. I feel as though I’ve been away for months. Unfortunately this doesn’t bode well for my 365 project. Better luck next year? I am officially throwing in the towel. No, no I don’t think I’ll try that again next year. I suddenly feel relieved. *exhaling*

My first image back is of none other than, my daughter. OF COURSE it would be right? She’s always entertaining. Never disappointing. And here she is in her full glory with an outfit she picked out on her very own. I mean you can’t beat a kid who likes to dress themselves. She has a specific style all her own, wouldn’t you say. I’m just not sure what to call it. Any ideas?
