If you look up the word photogenic in the dictionary, I’m pretty sure you’d find this kid. Is it okay to say that a boy is photogenic? I don’t get to shoot too many boys, so I was super excited to grab this kid and start firing away…with my camera that is. The best part was when we were in the middle of the shoot and he mentions something about a skateboard. I was like, “Dude, why don’t we have that out here already?” So he ran to the car, upon retrieval proceeded to show me some tricks…he’s taking lessons! I thought that was pretty cool. Needless to say, It turned out to be a beautiful evening in downtown Tulsa, with a beautiful boy. I’m so lucky. And Nancy, you’ve got a heartbreaker on your hands!

Tulsa, Friends, and Rick Springfield

I had the great pleasure of returning to my hometown last week, Tulsa. A lot of changes are taking place right now, a lot of the personality that defined Tulsa is fading away and being overtaken by progress. The roads are a mess and antiquity is being destroyed by lack of attention. This makes me feel so sad. I’m mean really really sad. I know the city will bounce back and shine like she once used to, but it will be different. I guess I don’t like change much in that regard. I’m such a sentimentalist. And speaking of sentimentalism, one of the reasons I went home was to attend the Rick Springfield show at the Tulsa State Fair with one of my best friends from high school. I have been a fan of Rick’s since I was 13 years old. It’s no secret that I adore him. What I think is true of most of his fans is the connection at an early age where he somehow helped us through a rough period during our lives. I know for me, this is true. I was never fickle in my fandom either. I never moved on from one band to the next, or pop idol to the next, I have always been faithful to my one main pop icon and it remains intact to this day. I can’t explain all the reasons, but suffice it to say that my sentimentality comes into play in regard to Rick and I just hold on to that feeling. My friend, Teri and her sister, were thick as thieves back in the day when it came to Rick. We have so many concert stories to tell that I couldn’t possibly write them all down and give them the same noteworthiness that each event brought to me at that time in my life. But it’s enough to say that we loved him and he made us feel alive and gave us something to look forward to with each album release and tour.

I went home to relive a little of that passion with my comrades and it was amazing. Truly. I had the best trip ever. During the show, Rick came into the audience to invite a few children onstage with him to sing a snippet of “Don’t Talk To Strangers” and in a wonderfully serendipitous moment standing next to me, he chose my friend’s son to come onstage..which then elicited backstage entrance for pictures. IT was amazing and I realized in that moment, we had come full circle. My life just goes like this sometimes. At 15 when I would lie in my bed at night listening to Living In Oz and Tao, I used to imagine meeting Rick…to be able to vocalize how much he meant to me. Silly, perhaps. A teenage crush…I can’t tell you why him. It just is. But here I am, 25 years later and I’ve met the man six times…as an adult. Respectful, mature and full of a lifetime of experiences greet him, when I shake his hand. And you know what? I’m still that 15 year old girl at heart. And I still get giddy after all these years. Who is your teen heart throb?

Here are some images of my friend’s son, David, onstage with Rick. He is the little boy in the black shirt. The ages of these children are between 7 and 2 years. The little girl on the end with Rick, is only 2 and completely adorable in every way. I have video footage of this and will post soon.

Grocery Cart Craziness

My three year old is crazy. She is fearless and always into mischief. Her favorite t.v. show right now is Lazytown, with Sporticus being her HERO. She loves to flip and jump and be completely athletic and physical in everything that she does. And here’s the catch, she loves wearing lipstick while doing it!

Today we went shopping. She scouted out this particular grocery cart for some strange reason. And then, we watched in utter dismay as she began doing all sorts of acrobatic maneuvers on the handle. I always carry a camera with me and thought I’d share a little bit of what we as her parents go through….enjoy.

Who are the people in your neighborhood, in your neighborhood, in your neigh-bor-hoooood? Starting a series this week of people in my neighborhood. The challenge will be to get people to do it. HA HA! And have them not become self conscious. Hmmm….

Yesterday, while my daughter was working on her rollerblading skills, it seemed to spark a frenzy of attention with the kids who live on my street. Suddenly there were rollerblades and bicycles and ripsticks all up and down the sidewalk in front of my house. And I love being the house the kids come to. When kids are free to be, anything can happen!

I’m off to Lincoln, Nebraska this morning to do some corporate staff headshots. When I get back I will catch up on all the 365 days I’ve missed. I may even have a brand new tattoo to show off. Who knows what Cindy will do in the bustling metropolis of Lincoln. Never been there, I heard it’s cold. Does anyone need headshots in Florida by chance? No? Hmmmm…..

Playing around in our backyard..before the snow came (it’s gone now!). Boys are funny, especially at the ages of 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, ….. but I managed to get Hunter to look straight into the camera for me without giggling or being shy. Oh, the stories I could tell you about our next door neighbor Hunter. BUT, I know his mom reads this blog so I won’t incriminate him. Wink, wink.

His mom would agree with me though that Hunter is a red-head through and through.

This child of mine is a total hellion. I’m not joking. She can tear my house apart in 10 minutes flat. I popped popcorn for the girls, who were supposed to be watching a movie. I then found my darling smashing popcorn into tiny bits and throwing it like confetti. She thinks she’s so cute.

We got in at nearly 1 am this morning after what was supposed to be a 10.5 hour drive. It turned out to be a 14 hour drive due to snow and ice. Yuck. I am knee deep in laundry and helping my children unpack and put their new Christmas gifts in an appropriate place, which is not the middle of my living room or kitchen floors. Pictures and writing all coming soon…needless to say, after six months of waiting for this gift, V is ecstatic. Waiting is good for the soul.

The other night we were decorating our tree. My three year old, as three year olds do, has a penchant for being naked. Immediately upon entering our home from being outside, she will begin to tear away at her clothing and march around the house “free” as we like to call it. As we were emptying our boxes of decorations she reached into one and pulled out a Santa hat, promptly put it on and continued with the task of decorating. Once the tree was complete, she jumped up with a sudden urge to go into the garage. We stood waiting, wondering what she was doing. When she appeared she was carrying an item that last year had brought her great joy at this time. The ornament buster. She seemed to have gone into a trance as she stood solid before our newly decorated Christmas tree…pondering her first move. And quietly, I snapped this picture…but just so you know, she was denied the cheerful exclamation “I WIN” she so exuberantly announced last year after busting several of our ornaments. And her little heart was devastated. But the moment will live on…
